Background
Duchy Stores, a well-known convenience store in Manchester, is improving its stores and customer experience with new retail technology. The system helps make the store safer and more engaging for shoppers.
Amit Patel, Managing Director, explained the benefits in a recent LinkedIn post.“With RETaiL AI, we now have the capability to detect theft and suspicious behavior through advanced AI-powered monitoring,” he explained. “Smart anti-theft alarms provide instant alerts, helping prevent potential losses before they occur.”
The technology is also aimed at improving the shopping environment. “Custom music integration allows us to create the perfect atmosphere for our customers, while personalised voiceovers add a warm, human touch to our in-store announcements,” added Patel. According to him, these features not only enhance operational efficiency but also deliver a safer, more enjoyable, and personalised shopping experience.
RETaiL technology was recognized at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards. The event took place at The HAC in Central London on 16 October and highlighted the most innovative ideas in retail. Attended by industry leaders, the event featured a drinks reception, a three-course meal, and an awards ceremony hosted by award-winning comedian and writer Tiff Stevenson.
Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor of RTIH, praised the quality of this year’s entries. “The submissions have been our best yet, showcasing remarkable innovations across both traditional and digital retail,” he said. Thompson also noted that the awards have grown over five years, with this year setting new attendance records and receiving the most entries ever.
